The clue is in the name at this gorgeous retreat, promising romantic seclusion in a delightful woodland setting. There’s greenery all around and whilst the setting maybe be rustic, the villa is anything but, with elegant, top-quality interiors that would be equally at home in a chic city apartment. The colours are softly muted, creating a wonderful sense of calm; just the place for a honeymoon, or when you need to escape from the world for a little while.

Stepping directly from your bedroom onto the terrace for a morning dip is a fantastic way to start your day, and you can spend hours in this private green oasis just reading, relaxing and enjoying one another’s company. It all feels deliciously remote, yet the red roofs of Sarlata village lie just beyond the forest. Your nearest local shops and restaurants are a five-minute drive away in Lakithra, and the sandy beaches at Avithos, Ai Helis and Ammes are only a few kilometres further. It’s also easy to visit the capital Argostoli, with its shops, restaurants and bustling central square, but the lure of dinner at home beneath a star-studded Kefalonian night might be just too hard to resist.

Our car hire supplier in Kefalonia has age restrictions within their insurance policy. We are unable to provide car hire for drivers below the age of 23 and over the age of 77 years old.

The Forest House will stay in our memories for years to come! We have enjoyed daily walks in the grounds, delighting in the smells, sights and sounds of nature. It’s the epitome of tranquillity! The infinity pool is fabulous and always so clear. What a good idea to put the sunbeds in the pool – the perfect way to relax after a swim and refreshing shower. The bean bag beds are so comfy to read & snooze on! The villa has everything we needed for a dream holiday and nothing is too much trouble for the family who clean twice a week. Our highlights were a trip to Fiskardo, taking in Myrtos beach for a swim and a trip around the Scala area – lovely beaches and food. The main attraction is the villa itself – it’s hard to drag ourselves away. We cannot thank Tina (and Gary) enough for all their friendly help and knowledge from meeting us at the airport, showing them to the villa, taking the strain out of our journey and giving us information about the area. Thank you!

Our first return to Greece, for perhaps 10 or 12 years, and our first time in Kefalonia, although we have always wanted to come. Forest Villa was the perfect base to explore the island, and we made trips to Fiskardo (via Myrtos beach and the Venetian fortress at Assos) and took the car ferry over to Ithica and Lixouri. From the brilliant blue seas, to the pine clad mountains, and rocky outcrops, the views are stunning in every direction and it is gratifying that the island feels relatively unscathed by the burden of mass tourism. Of course, we also relished our “down” days, here relaxing by the pool, listening to the birdsong and the breeze blowing through the trees and the owners have provided everything you need to exist in that bubble. Thanks to Tina and all at Simpsons and Iro and her team who have looked after us. We certainly hope to return one day.

This was the most perfect holiday. All the arrangements before went without a hitch and on our arrival we were met by our concierge, Tina. Forest Lodge takes some finding as it is so secluded but Tina took the time to show us the way to the villa. She also interrupted her Saturday evening to guide me in a second time when I got lost after my first shopping trip! The villa itself was gorgeous. It was very clean and everything worked perfectly. It is set in the most beautiful garden and it is so peaceful. The swimming pool was wonderful and the wildlife (Pine Marten included) was very special. The island was as lovely as ever and the villa is well situated to be in easy reach of great tavernas, lovely beaches, good food shops and all the other attractions of Cephalonia. I would happily recommend this holiday to anyone. Well done Simpson and thank you Tina.

Densely forested hills dotted with traditional hamlets and a coastline of small, quiet coves make Kefalonia an unspoilt Greek holiday delight. Its northeastern tip shelters picture-perfect Fiskardo, whose 18th-century houses stand proud with their flower-festooned balconies and carved doors. South Kefalonia hosts Argostoli, the vibrant island capital that still has an active fishing fleet alongside its buzzing cafes and restaurants. Come early and you’ll probably spot a loggerhead turtle in the harbour, or stay late and take a stroll down the waterfront promenade. Trapezaki is a little southern secret, with beautiful views over the sea to Zakynthos and up to Mount Ainos, the highest peak on the island. There’s an unspoilt sandy beach here with a single taverna, and if you’re looking for more choice, try Lourdas, a lovely long sandy/shingle beach lined with waterfront cafes and restaurants.
